What is your primary product or service?
Our primary market is residential exterior home improvement s, such as windows, siding, roofing, sunrooms, blown in insulation, Sunsetter Retractible awnings, railings, cedar shingles, gutters and trim, decks, porches, Provia storm doors, Harvey Industries products, painting and carpentry.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I grew up in the center of Fairhaven, MA next door to a contractor, Mike. He took me under his wing and gave me a summer job. I worked for Mike part time while I was going for my Bachelors degree in Accounting at UMASS Dartmouth, class of 1979. I enjoyed fixing up houses and making people happy, so in 1983 I decided to open my own home improvement company. My first office was 53 Main St, Fairhaven, right next door to Wah May's Restaurant, then after 5 years there I needed a larger place and bought my own building at 366 Main St, in North Fairhaven. After outgrowing that building in 10 years, I purchased my present location at 119 Alden Rd Fairhaven, formerly Acushnet Electric. It is everything I always wanted. We invested a lot of money to adapt the building for our needs. A large air conditioned, handicap accessible showroom, plenty of office space, conference room, and warehouse space. A beautiful building in a perfect location right off the highway.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
After being in business 25 years you learn a lot. You understand that there are a lot of bad contractors doing shoddy work. Contractors go out of business all the time just by changing there company name or moving to a new area.
We are proud of who we are and what we do for our customers. We may not be the fastest but we will certainly be the best. All top of the line products, very experienced installers. We carry all the insurances you need to protect yourself while we are working on your home. Workers Comp, Liability, Auto etc. Plus we give a 10 year workmanship warranty on our installations. We are licensed in MA and RI.

How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location but service many areas. Our areas include Rhode Island, Cape Cod, up to Boston, out to Worcester and right down to the Southcoast. We are in the process of looking for an ideal location to open our second showroom/office.

Take any of these highways, Rt 24. Rt 140, I-495, I-95, to I-195 to Fairhaven, then take Rt 240 south to the first set of lights, turn right onto Bridge St, then turn right again at the next set of lights onto Alden Rd. What type of payments do you accept?
Of course we accept cash, personal checks, bank checks, all major credit cards, we also provide financing from local banks and we also do some in-house payment plans.

Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Stevens Home Improvement Co is a corporation owned solely by myself, Steven Alves.
Daily operations are handled by myself, my brother Jack, who runs production scheduling and installations, My father John, now 85 years old, handles the money end of the company, always making sure we take our prompt pay discounts, and the Accounting end are watched closely. Freda handles customer service and bookkeeping. Everybody loves Freda because of her honest, cheerful approach to our customers. But, there are a total of 25 people that work in the company making sure that the installations are done correctly, jobs are kept neat and clean and that the overall company runs smoothly.
What are your hours of operation?
Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. We are open on Saturdays March through October, from 10 am to 1 pm. Showroom hours are subject to change to meet our customers needs. In home estimates are available day, nights, and weekends.
